Abnormal Psychology Degree Options and Curriculum

As a professional in abnormal psychology, you assess and treat clients with individualized behavioral plans. Playing a direct role with clients on a one-to-basis and watching them improve with your expertise brings great personal satisfaction.

In addition to the general core curriculum, the sub-specialty of abnormal psychology features courses in:

  • Behavioral analysis
  • Genetics of human behavior

The curriculum is designed to give you a solid foundation in abnormal psychology theories, principles and methods. Most master and doctorate programs include required internships, so you apply classroom knowledge in a real medical or educational setting. Learning outcomes include the ability to secure a position as a case manager for a social service agency, school counselors and assistant to psychologists.

With a doctorate degree in abnormal psychology, you have even more options. You can open your own private practice, work as a consultant, do research or even teach at a university.
