At Arizona's four public universities, psychology is a consistently popular undergraduate degree program, according to data from the Arizona Board of Regents. In 2009-2010 alone, Arizona University awarded over 1200 bachelors of psychology degrees.
Many of these degree recipients will go on to graduate studies in psychology. In Arizona, you must have at least a master's degree, and frequently a doctoral degree, to work as a clinical, counseling or school psychologist. Other undergraduate psychology majors will pursue graduate studies in fields such as law, business, medicine, and education.
Those who don't pursue further education can seek employment in virtually any field that values the skills and knowledge learned in a psychology program, such as critical thinking, data gathering and interpretation, writing and speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Some of the fields for which psychology graduates would be well-suited are experiencing high growth in Arizona. For example, employment of recruitment and placement specialists is expected to grow nearly 18 percent through 2018, according to Arizona's Office of Employment and Population Statistics. Employment of social and human service assistants is expected to grow 15 percent during the same period.
