Counseling Psychology Degrees in Iowa
(found programs from 1623 schools)

In earlier generations, people didn't often seek help outside of the family for personal problems. Fortunately, that prideful mentality has changed and people who are experiencing emotional trouble, changing life circumstances or a mental illness feel more comfortable seeking the assistance of a licensed counseling psychologist. Working as a counselor can be a viable and rewarding occupation for people with a caring nature who want to use their skills to help others improve their lives. The first step is to complete a bachelor degree in psychology and then a graduate or doctoral degree.

At the undergraduate level, counseling psychology students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Developmental Psychology
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Research Methods
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Behavioral Neurology
  • Legal Issues in Psychology

Graduate and doctoral programs in counseling psychology in Iowa focus less on the foundation of psychology and more on specific counseling methods. You will learn specific techniques for communicating with clients who are experiencing a wide range of problems in addition to completing several hours of field study.
