There are several different Clinical Psychology programs in California which can prepare you for practice in this field. In general, it takes three to four years to complete the required coursework for an undergraduate degree in Psychology. Most Clinical Psychology PhD programs in California require approximately 60 credits for completion, and allow you to choose an area of specialization. You can usually complete your Doctoral degree in four to six years of study, which includes clinical practicum components and your dissertation. Keep in mind that the PhD is a mostly academic route, while PsyD programs in California are more suited to clinical practice.   • Coursework must include classes in child abuse, human sexuality, substance abuse, aging and long-term care, and spousal abuse
  • 3,000 hours of supervised professional psychology experience
  • 1,500 hours of supervised experience must occur after finishing doctorate degree
  • Fingerprint scan for criminal history clearance
