License Requirements

According to the New York State Office of Professions, in order to become a licensed psychologist in the state of New York you must meet specific education, examination and experience requirements.

Applicants for a NYS psychologist license must have a doctoral degree in psychology, complete a two year, full-time supervised experience and pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology.

Exceptions to these license requirements can be made for people licensed to practice psychology in another state or those who have already passed the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology in another state.

In addition to these license requirements, you must also be at least 21 years of age and pay a license application fee. The license fee may be partially refunded to people who decide to withdraw their application for licensure.
