Professionals who work with this population have the opportunity to use their skills and help them lead more fulfilling lives. Counselors and psychologists work closely with their clients and develop treatment plans and strategies to help them cope with their emotional and psychological issues and to adapt to life. Playing a major role and watching clients progress brings great personal satisfaction. Knowing that you are having a positive impact on the lives of others gives your career direction and purpose.

Abnormal Psychology Degree Options and Curriculum

The curriculum for an abnormal psychology program provides you with a solid foundation in psychological theories, practices and knowledge. At the master’s and doctoral level, practicums are required to gain hands-on experience in clinical settings.

These internships are completed under the supervision and in collaboration with your instructor. Common college courses in an abnormal psychology program typically include research methods, statistics, and biological origins of mental disorders, social psychology, intervention strategies and mental health laws.

Depending on whether you pursue a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree, job options include case manager, family counselor, human resource administrator, health team worker, consultant, private practice, teaching and much more
